Afrique en Image à Beyrouth (Africa in Beirut)

The last two decades have witnessed the steady emergence of African cinema. The works of African filmmakers from different generations have achieved worldwide recognition, and were honored in several international film festivals. In an endeavor to celebrate this new-found strength, Beirut DC held for the first time in Lebanon a festival entirely dedicated to African cinema. The festival took place in Beirut Theater, from the 7th to the 10th of February, 2002.
The aims of the Afrique en Image à Beyrouth festival is to showcase the artistic value and cultural identity of African cinema, as well as to create a space for cultural exchange between Lebanese filmmakers and their African counterparts.
